Growing our family through surrogacy has been our aspiration as a couple, and we recognize the significance of this journey. Kevin’s desire to have his own children started when he first became an uncle and was reinforced as a teenager-babysitter taking care of his nieces and nephews. Now, Kevin enjoys bestowing knowledge, creating shared experiences, being their ally, and fostering their development through adolescence and into adulthood. Kevin is eager to carry forward his exceptional experiences and apply them to raising his own children.

Joey appreciates his many blessings growing up around a loving and respectful family and also his growth from tackling family hardships. This has fostered a family oriented mindset and he wishes to bestow upon his children the magical upbringing and support structures that he’s had the immense privilege to enjoy.

Our love story began in 2017 through a chance meeting while Kevin was working in his capacity as cochair for Pride Toronto. Our connection was instant - gravitational you could say! Through the following year, as friends, we explored our common interests, objectives and morals which built the foundation for what soon evolved into romance, love and finally marriage in 2022.

In Sudbury, Joey looks forward to connecting his children with those of his friends, old and new, and continuing with hobbies like tennis and curling. Kevin enjoys exploring the outdoors and connecting with nature, and looks forward to his children growing up in a unique area of Ontario within an intersectional family. Since living in Sudbury, we regularly host both sides of our family. The family connections during these gatherings have provided us with the confidence that we have a great and supportive family structure.

Requirements

As a couple who supports body positivity, we hope to match with a surrogate who maintains a healthy lifestyle and meets our clinic’s requirements.

The relationship we hope to build

Ideally, we're looking for a surrogate who is accepting of queer community, someone who has a genuine interest in supporting the growth of our family. Our hope is for our surrogate to embody warmth and authenticity. We would like for them to be open to transparent and ongoing communication. Ideally, our surrogate will have a healthy balance of their mental and physical well-being as we prioritize this in our own daily lives.

Our primary objective throughout this journey is to ensure the most positive experience for all. If you join us, we will anticipate an ongoing and open dialogue with you, from this point forward and including after birth, and we are open to participation in major appointments, including embryo transfer and the delivery - whatever meets your comfort level. Anything goes really, so long as we understand our respective wishes and align/adjust our path forward.

Views on termination

We support termination/abortion in circumstances where the Mother’s life is in danger or where the child is likely to endure a life of pain and suffering. Also in cases where children are conceived through violence against their Mother.

Fun facts about me

I enjoy a very close bond with my family. We stay in touch during our busy weeks through group chats, exchanging silly messages and funnies, and planning our weekends. It’s uncommon for Kevin and I to not spend an evening with my family each week. BBQs, time at the camp, tennis with Dad, and game nights during winter are some of my favourite family pastimes.

Interests and hobbies

I was a competitive curler during my school days, and with a more predictable work schedule have recently reconnected with the sport and with some old teammates / friends, which has enabled me to achieve a healthy social balance. I currently travel a few days per week for work which has satisfied my lifelong passion for aviation, plane spotting, and kept me feeling the buzz and excitement of being on the move. Around the home, and when I have down time, I enjoy playing cards (Love Letters, euchre, cribbage, and of course crazy 8s!), board games, and cleaning the house, particularly the kitchen as Kevin handles our cooking.

Fun facts about me

Outside of his love for the arts, Kevin is very passionate about his family and friends.

He grew up in a large family, being the youngest of five. Kevin loves hosting family gatherings, going to dinners and celebrating any occasion with those he loves. This includes his family of choice, which are the friends that he has made throughout the years, and have been integrated in his family gatherings.

You can always find Kevin holding social gatherings and preparing a charcuterie board!

His favourite activities include dancing, karaoke, reading and competitive board game playing.

Interests and hobbies

Kevin grew up dancing for most of his life, being trained in ballet, jazz, tap and modern. Spending many weeks at dance classes, you’d often catch a younger Kevin having his head in comic books or those about dancing, singing and acting. Kevin always dreamed about performing on stage.

As a child, teenager and even as an adult, he has performed on stage, in film, and on television. Graduating from musical theatre and working in the entertainment business for many years all while doing social work, has allowed Kevin the ability to balance and pursue his many passions.
