I am tall, I used it to my advantage. I played competitive basketball for many years, later playing basketball in college, go thunder !
I had many ultrasounds growing up and they ultimately played a critical role in saving my life. The sonographer who discovered my cancer continued to perform my scans afterward, and over time we developed a close bond. I was always fascinated by the machine itself, as a child I thought the buttons looked far too interesting not to press.
Years later, after I had āgraduatedā from the childrenās hospital (CHEO), I completed a co-op placement while trying to figure out my path in medicine. By chance, or maybe fate, I ran into that same sonographer on my last day of placement. She told me I should pursue a career in ultrasound. I doubted whether I was capable, but she quickly set me straight.
Iāve now been working in the field for 10 years, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to pay it forward. I will always be grateful that our paths crossed when they did and that she empowered me to pursue Ultrasound. Each time I make a connection/help a patient, I think of her and try to make her proud. Show the same care, empathy and skill she demonstrated with me all those years. We have kept in touch since and she is going to be attending our wedding in June.
Iāve experienced first hand, how you can turn a difficult situation into something beautiful and form lasting bonds with those who support you along the way. I truly believe we cross paths with people for a reason. A big part of me is looking forward to starting the journey of surrogacy because of the opportunity to create a beautiful bond with the person who would bring my child into this world.
Years into my career, Iāve ultrasound many surrogates/IPās babies! It has felt amazing to support them on their journey and I hope one day Iāll have the opportunity to be on the other side!!
We have four sweet kitties at home, which we absolutely adore. Ollie, Blue, Hazel and Tigger. They are all so snuggly and playful. We are so lucky to have them in our lives.
