Sabrish and I have known each other since childhood — long before we ever imagined we’d end up here, building a life together in Canada. His younger sister and I were childhood friends, always together on playdates, while Sabrish was the calm peacemaker settling our little disagreements. We shared a circle of friends, laughter, and memories that go way back to our early school days in India.
One of my earliest memories of him still makes me smile — I had forgotten to finish my homework one day and was so upset on the school bus. Sabrish and his friend quickly helped me complete it before we reached school! It was a small act of kindness, but even as kids, he had a quiet way of noticing when someone needed help and simply stepping in. That’s still who he is today.
As adults, we would often bump into each other through family and mutual friends. Once, when I was in college in Chennai, he invited me to lunch near my hostel — a memory we both still laugh about. I was trying to be the “difficult vegetarian” that day, but it turned into a story we’ve told for years. Even then, there was an ease and understanding between us.
Life took us in different directions for a while — he moved to Saskatchewan for work, while I stayed in India — but as fate would have it, our paths crossed again. Our families reconnected, and soon after, we realized what had always been true: we were meant to find each other. We got engaged in 2011 and married later that year. By 2012, we had made Regina our home.
We love road trips, small hikes, and exploring new places, especially during the Canadian summers. We both enjoy food adventures — sharing a single dish wherever we travel has become our little tradition. Sabrish is also a devoted uncle; he takes his niece and nephew on fun adventures every time they visit — from museum trips to feeding ducks in the park to epic snow fights in our yard. Those visits always fill our home with laughter and love.
Our families, both here and abroad, have been incredibly supportive of our fertility journey and our decision to grow our family through surrogacy. We’re grateful to have a strong circle that believes in us and shares our hope for the future.
Together, we’ve faced challenges, celebrated growth, and kept faith in what’s ahead. We’re excited for this next chapter — and to one day share our love, curiosity, and sense of wonder with a child of our own.
