Baden and Zane

At a glance

Introduction

We're Baden and Zane, parents to a daughter named Scottie (20 months, born via gestational surrogacy).

We're total foodies and love travel, spending time outdoors (less so when it's freezing out!), making new friends, animals, and making the world a better place through fertility advocacy.

We're the couple behind the @notmytummy account, where we shared our incredible first surrogacy journey, and we're excited to begin journey number two!

Our story

Hi, we're the Colts and we're so glad you're here! We love good food, great company, travel, and laughing together. We are thrilled to be beginning a surrogacy sibling journey to welcome our next baby, a brother or sister for our giggly toddler Scottie.

About our family

Baden is a passionate storyteller, award-winning fertility change-maker, and the founder of Not My Tummy. Zane will quickly become the funniest guy you've met and is an adventurer and amazing home cook. Together we adore life with our daughter Scottie and our cockapoo Dodi. We have truly found our best selves in our family - our typical weekends include long walks in our neighbourhood with the dog, swimming lessons and other activities with our daughter, family time with our extended family (Scottie's aunts are always popping over to love on their only niece!), and a constant flow of plans with our wide circle of friends.

We love traveling the world (places like Thailand, Iceland, Israel, Greece, and Italy), art (we love to visit art shows, museums, and pottery painting - though we aren't necessarily good at it!), and doing activities like scuba, camping, cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays, and eating our way through the Toronto food scene.

Zane says Baden is...

Compassionate, a social butterfly, and has 'total golden retriever' energy. She wears her heart on her sleeve and is always consumed in the service of others. She's a great, nurturing mom, always showing affection and encouraging growth and learning.

Baden says Zane is...

Whip-smart, funny, and incredibly generous with others. When a friend or family member asks for help, he goes far beyond the call of duty. As a father, he is absolutely smitten with our little girl. He is always quick to scoop her into his arms for a cuddle, steal a kiss, and I have no doubt that he'll be the dad that's dressed in a tiara and tutu for tea parties when Scottie is a little older.

What brings us to surrogacy?

Thanks to a diagnosis of epilepsy and the corresponding medication she has to take, Baden is unable to safely carry a pregnancy.

About our first journey

Our first surrogacy journey brought us our daughter Scottie as well as a lifelong friendship with our surrogate Ashley and her family.

What we're looking for

We know first-hand that surrogacy is about a lot more than making a baby. We're hoping to form a friendship built on trust, mutual respect, and joy together.

Matching preferences

Surrogate requirements
Between the ages of 21-42 In great health Finished building your family Have had healthy, uncomplicated pregnancies No more than 3 prior c-sections
Personal preferences
We hope to build a close relationship, attending appointments and allowing our families to spend time together. Our ideal match is located in Ontario. Documenting elements our surrogacy journey, on a time delay, is also a part of our experience. We would love to match with someone who is comfortable with our desire to share some elements of the journey publicly.
Vaccination information
We would prefer that our surrogate receives vaccinations recommended to her by the fertility doctor and OB-GYN. Additional vaccinations are at her discretion.
Views on termination
We would consider a termination in the case of risk to a surrogate's health, as well as in the case of a catastrophic medical condition incompatible with independent living. In such a circumstance, we would work with our surrogate to receive second (and third) medical opinions but would prefer to make the final decision as a couple. We would expect that a surrogate would respect our wishes. Our embryos have undergone pre-implantation genetic testing.
