Hi! I'm Andrew. Thank you so much for checking out my profile and getting to know me and my journey to parenthood. I've dreamed of becoming a parent since I was a kid myself. It's something I hold dear to my heart to raise child(ren) in a loving and caring home. I’m tremendously excited about sharing this exciting journey with someone truly special and generous, built on trust, kindness, mutual respect, and gratitude. I know this journey takes an extraordinary amount of love and selflessness, and I would forever be grateful to the amazing person who helps make my dream of becoming a parent come true!

Financial preparedness

With the help and support of my wonderful sister, I've been fortunate enough to save enough funds to comfortable cover for two surrogacy journeys. I'm also established in my career as a policy director, earning a six-figure salary. I'm grateful to be in a position where I can pursue parenthood with financial stability and focus on giving my future children the loving, secure home they deserve.

Embryos
Yes.

Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to work with two wonderful egg donors on my journey to parenthood. My first experience didn't quite go as hoped, as the eggs exhibited some structural abnormalities that affected the results. Fortunately, my second experience was much more successful! I'm grateful to have 13 embryos frozen with Dr. Victory in Windsor, Ontario. 11 of the 13 have been confirmed as genetically healthy (euploid embryos). It's been quite a journey to get here, and I'm thankful to be at a step closer to becoming a dad!

What they're looking for
Their hopes and requirements for a surrogate
Requirements

According to my fertility clinic, the following are the clinic requirements for a surrogate:

a) Age 20-45;

b) No smoking and/or vaping (we blood test them for nicotine);

c) No alcohol;

d) No drugs and marijuana (THC or CBD);

e) BMI of <35;

f) No more than two antidepressant agents, but cannot use SNRIs like Effexor;

g) Fewer than 6 pregnancies total;

h) No more than 3 previous cesarean sections; and

i) No significant obstetrical history (e.g., severe postpartum hemorrhage, adherent placenta, etc.).

The relationship we hope to build

Personally, I would like the surrogate to:

a) Be in generally good health, particularly with her blood pressure, glucose level, and cholesterol level;

b) Have a strong support network near her and/or is open to relying on me for ongoing support; and

c) Value a healthy lifestyle and diet, such as being mindful about eating healthy, regularly seeing a primary physician, avoiding forever chemicals (PFOS and PFAS), and avoiding plastic use/consumption.

Vaccination information

I'm personally a staunch proponent of taking all the vaccines I can and should get, but I do not have a particular preference for the surrogate. I would like a surrogate who follows her doctor's recommendations on her vaccinations. If a vaccine, for some reason, could impact her healthy pregnancy, I would like for her to hold off until it is safe for her and the baby to do so.

I'm a big believer in staying up-to-date on the recommended vaccines. But when it comes to my surrogate, I don't have any particular preferences about which vaccines she should or shouldn't receive. My desire is simply that she follows the fertility doctor's recommendations based on her individual circumstances and the needs of her pregnancy. If a particular vaccine isn't advisable during pregnancy, I would want her to follow her doctor's guidance and wait until it's safe and appropriate. Ultimately, her health, comfort, and the well-being of the baby are what matter most to me.

Views on termination

I would consider termination in the following circumstances:

a) When the fertility doctor determines that the surrogate's health is seriously at risk; or

b) When serious fetal complications are diagnosed that jeopardizes a health life for the baby.

I would also consider selective reduction when there is a multiple pregnancy of more than three fetuses.

Fun facts about me

One could say that my baby fever started pretty early. At just seven years old, I had an entire page in my school notebook dedicated to baby names, with one column for boys and another for girls. As the youngest of my generation, I grew up surrounded by my cousins’ babies, and I spent a lot of time fantasizing about having kids of my own someday. Apparently, even at seven, I was already working on my future family plans!

My name had quite the journey of its own. I was born in Korea with the name Kyu-ho, but my grandmother and aunts called me Soo-jin—which, fun fact, is typically a girl's name. When my family was immigrating to the US on Christmas Day of '95, my dad decided Kyu-ho might be difficult to adapt to English, so he changed it to Soo-ho. I don't know if a boy named "Soo" is exactly any better. But, funny enough, there is a Johnny Cash song called A Boy Named Sue. Of course, it became my unofficial theme song among my friends in high school.

The name adventure didn't end there. When my dad became a US citizen, we learned that I could legally change my name for the grand price of $55. After scanning literally hundreds of names, I landed on Andrew Etienne—with Etienne being a name my French teacher insisted on because it was the name I used in her class. And just like that, another chapter in my naming saga began! Nowadays, my family and friends call me either by "Soo," "Andrew," "Andy," "Drew," or simply "Hey, You!"

Interests and hobbies

I’m what you might call a “jack of all trades, master of none!” I love trying new things, learning new skills, and picking up random hobbies along the way. I’m happiest when I’m outdoors, whether that means hiking, cycling, swimming, camping, or hitting the slopes for a ski day. When I’m not out exploring, you’ll probably find me playing the piano, tending to my ever-growing collection of plants, or curled up with a good book to unwind.

One of my more unusual hobbies is cleaning! There’s something incredibly satisfying about a sparkling-clean home. Put on some good music, hand me a scrub brush, and I’m in my happy place! I may not be a master of any one hobby, but I love keeping life interesting, trying new things, and finding joy in the little things.

What friends say
“

My friends would probably describe me as “nice” and “sweet,” and I’d like to think they’re onto something! I’m definitely a people person, and I really value being thoughtful, empathetic, and making sure everyone feels included. I’m usually the one checking in on friends, making sure everyone is having a good time, and looking out for the people I care about. Seeing my friends happy really makes me happy, too! At the end of the day, I care a lot about the people in my life, and I try to show it in the little ways that I can that I think make them feel loved and supported.
