Doing their journey in Canada

About them

Hi! We’re Maria and Joey from Ontario, Canada. We met by chance on a camping weekend in Wasaga Beach when we were 22 and 23, and we’ve been choosing each other ever since.

After years of infertility, IVF, and unexpected medical challenges, we’ve had to let go of the pregnancy we once imagined, but surrogacy has given us hope that we can still become parents.

We’re excited to pursue an independent journey and hopefully meet someone who feels like the right fit for us. We hope to build a relationship based on open communication, trust, respect, lots of laughter, and genuine friendship - not just throughout the pregnancy, but hopefully for many years afterward.

What they're looking for
Their hopes and requirements for a surrogate
Requirements

We are pursuing an independent journey and would ideally love to connect with someone in Ontario, although we’re open to other provinces for the right match.

Based on our clinic’s guidelines, we’re looking for a surrogate who:

  • Is approximately 21–43 years old

  • Has a BMI below 35

  • Has experienced at least one healthy pregnancy and delivery

  • Has had no more than five previous births and no more than three previous Caesarean deliveries

  • Is a non-smoker and non-drug user and lives and works in a smoke-free environment

  • Is comfortable with a hospital birth

Beyond the medical requirements, we’re ultimately looking for someone who feels comfortable and excited about pursuing a journey together.

The relationship we hope to build

Open communication is probably the most important thing to us.

We want to be able to talk openly about anything and everything throughout the journey, and we want our surrogate to feel equally comfortable coming to us with questions, concerns, changing feelings, or anything else that’s on her mind.

We’d love to be very involved throughout the pregnancy and attend appointments whenever possible while always respecting our surrogate’s autonomy, boundaries, and preferences.

Ideally, we’d also love for our relationship to continue beyond the pregnancy and become a lifelong connection. At the same time, we understand that every surrogate has different preferences around post-birth relationships, and we’re flexible about what that connection ultimately looks like.

Vaccination information

We’re comfortable discussing vaccinations openly with our surrogate and following medical recommendations throughout the pregnancy.

We would want to discuss any vaccines specifically recommended by the treating physician during pregnancy. We don’t have a particular preference regarding annual flu or COVID vaccinations and would rather have those conversations together and with the medical team.

Views on termination

We know this is one of the more difficult but important conversations to have before entering a surrogacy journey.

We would consider termination if our surrogate’s health or our baby’s health were seriously at risk, or if significant medical circumstances were expected to substantially affect the baby’s quality of life.

We would want these decisions to involve careful discussion with our surrogate and the appropriate medical specialists so that everyone understands the circumstances and feels heard and supported.

Fun facts about me

’m a huge dog person and will happily stop to say hello to every dog I pass. I’m also a true-crime documentary fanatic, can probably quote far too many episodes of The Simpsons, love everything Christmas, and will never say no to a warm-weather getaway. I even caught my very first pike last year after Joey slowly convinced me that fishing might actually be fun!

Interests and hobbies

I love spending time outdoors, taking long walks, going to the beach, practicing hot yoga, visiting local farms, and spending fall afternoons apple or pumpkin picking. Travel is another huge passion of mine, especially anywhere warm and tropical.

At home, I love decorating and creating cozy, welcoming spaces. I’m happiest surrounded by our family, friends, and dogs, whether we’re hosting a BBQ, watching a movie, listening to music, or just enjoying a quiet night together.

Giving back is also really important to me. I grew up volunteering alongside my mom with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and have continued volunteering with dog rescues, fertility organizations, and other causes close to my heart.

What friends say
“

My friends would probably describe me as caring, loyal, compassionate, and someone who genuinely loves connecting with people. I’m the person who wants everyone to feel comfortable and included, and I’m always ready to help the people I love.

Joey says one of his favourite things about me is that I can go from being completely serious to laughing uncontrollably over something ridiculous. He says I have a way of making even ordinary moments feel special - although he would probably also mention my facial expressions and all of my little quirks!

Fun facts about me

I play guitar and drums, love just about every sport, and am probably more competitive than I’d like to admit. Fishing is one of my favourite hobbies, and I’ve been slowly converting Maria into a fishing person too. I also make homemade wine with Maria’s dad, which has become one of our favourite traditions.

And every Christmas, I transform into Santa for our friends’ children - a job I take VERY seriously!

Interests and hobbies

I have a hard time sitting still and love keeping busy. Hockey, soccer, baseball, fishing, music, and spending time outdoors are some of my favourite things.

Music has always been a big part of my life, and you’ll often find me playing guitar or drums after work or playing for family and friends. Family is incredibly important to me, so some of my favourite days are simply spent around the table, at a BBQ, at the cottage, or celebrating holidays together.

I can’t wait to one day teach our child how to cast a fishing line, play their first game of catch, or pick up a guitar - if those are things they end up loving too.

What friends say
“

My friends and family would probably describe me as loyal, dependable, hardworking, patient, and always ready to make people laugh.

I’m already the “go-to” uncle in our family and love being around our nieces, nephews, and friends’ children. Maria says I’m the person who always shows up when someone needs help and that the kids naturally gravitate toward me because I’m always ready to play, teach them something new, or make them laugh.
