How difficult it is to talk about ourselves!
If we could take you with us for a day, it would be easier for you to understand that our story is that of two men who cannot imagine life without each other: perhaps because our role models are our parents and grandparents.
For example, Xavier's paternal grandparents lived together for 60 years. They overcame everything: the sudden departure from Portugal to France to offer a better life to their children, hard work, illness, but also and above all, Christmas with the family and Sundays spent enjoying a simple but hearty meal.
It is this image of a loving, solid couple who know how to make concessions so that neither feels left out or misunderstood that we strive to reproduce every day.
Discussion is the glue that holds our relationship together.
And laughter too! If Tony puts on a few pounds, he likes to say, ‘At least it's like waking up next to a new person every morning.’
When Xavier arrives late (which is often!), he always has a good excuse: ‘Anyway, the party can't start without me!’
Of course, like any couple, we have our ups and downs. The latest hurt? Three failed transfers with the woman who carried our son and would have loved to be the one to complete our family.
After going through a period of endless sadness, our response to this challenge is the same one that has guided us in all our projects so far:
‘Either we give up and regret for the rest of our lives not having done everything we could to achieve our goal, or we redouble our efforts and find a solution.’
Alicia, our incredible surrogate who does not wish to attempt a fourth transfer, supports us wholeheartedly and is more than happy to talk to the woman who will be joining us on this incredible journey!
So here we are: today, 20 years after we met, we are starting a new chapter in our love story.
Would you like to write it together?
